Family Gut Health Reset
Prioritize your family’s gut health in just one week!
Join us this week building healthy habits as a family with a family gut health reset to start the new year! As a mom and functional medicine practitioner, I know firsthand how crucial gut health is—not just for physical wellness but also for mood, immunity, and energy. Teaching your kids healthy habits can feel overwhelming, but small, intentional changes can have a big impact. That’s why I created this 7-Day Family Gut Health Reset!
It’s simple, fun, and designed to engage the whole family. Each day, we’ll focus on a gut-friendly habit to improve digestion, balance your microbiome, and create lasting health for you and your little ones. Read more below and follow along on Instagram for more tips and tricks!
Why Focus on Gut Health?
Your gut is the foundation of overall health, affecting everything from your immune system to your mood. For kids, building a strong gut early can support better digestion, less colds and illnesses, improved focus, and long-term wellness. For moms and grown-ups, prioritizing your gut can mean improved energy and mood, better hormone health, fewer cravings, and less bloating. Health begins in the gut!
How The Family Gut Health Reset Works
1. Each day, you’ll focus on one simple gut-health action.
2. Get your kids involved! These activities are family-friendly and easy to adapt.
3. Share your progress on social media—don’t forget to tag @wildricewellness!
4. Carry these tips beyond this week and incorporate them all year long!
The 7-Day Challenge
Day 1: Hydration is Key
Goal: Start the day with a glass of water (add electrolytes for a boost!).
Why: Water helps flush toxins, improves energy and supports digestion.
Kid-Friendly Tip: Let your kids pick out their water bottle or choose a fun cup to make hydration exciting.
Day 2: Add a Fermented Food
Goal: Try a gut-friendly food like yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, or pickles. More on pre and probiotic foods HERE!
Why: Fermented foods provide probiotics, the good bacteria your gut loves.
Kid-Friendly Tip: Make a taste-test game with different fermented options.
Day 3: Eat the Rainbow
Goal: Include 5 different-colored fruits and veggies in your meals.
Why: A variety of plant-based foods feed beneficial gut bacteria.
Kid-Friendly Tip: Challenge your kids to find as many colors as they can during grocery shopping or have them pick out a fruit or vegetable they haven’t tried or haven’t had in awhile. We do this often and it is so fun!
Day 4: Fiber Up
Goal: Add high-fiber foods like oats, beans, chia seeds, or leafy greens to your meals.
Why: Fiber acts as food for gut bacteria, helping them thrive. Fiber also helps with bowel regularity which is good for kids and grown-ups alike!
Kid-Friendly Tip: Make a fun “fiber chart” and let kids add stickers for each food they try that has fiber.
Day 5: Ditch the Sugar
Goal: Reduce added sugar for the day and opt for natural alternatives where necessary.
Why: Too much sugar can harm gut bacteria and lead to inflammation.
Kid-Friendly Tip: Involve your kids in making a healthy treat, like frozen banana bites or homemade smoothies.
Day 6: Move Your Body
Goal: Get active as a family—dance, go for a walk, or play outside.
Why: Physical activity stimulates the gut and aids digestion.
Kid-Friendly Tip: Make it a game—create an obstacle course or have a dance-off! Even better, if the sun is shining – get outside no matter the temperature and get some fresh air!
Day 7: Unplug and Unwind
Goal: Spend 15 minutes before bed relaxing without screens—try deep breathing, a bedtime story, or yoga. Even better, try unplugging from devices all day to connect as a family without screens!
Why: Stress affects gut health, and relaxation can support digestion.
Kid-Friendly Tip: Practice belly breathing together or create a cozy reading nook.
